Shirley Sherwin received her BA in English and Economics from Brooklyn College and her MA in Education from Hofstra University. She studied art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School for five years (P.T.) with Murray Hanfman and Reuben Tamm before moving to Merrick, N.Y. There she studied with Paul Margin and Paul Wood, Jeff Webb and Louise Cadallac.

She works with acrylic on canvas and also in collage and with multi-media. She has exhibited and sold her work in places including the Cork Gallery in Lincoln Center in N.Y.C.. the Island Artists' Gallery in Greenport, IMAC Gallery in Huntington, FAMLI Museum in Hempstead, Guild Hall in East Hampton and Polytechnic University in Farmingdale (where one of her paintings is on permanent display in the office of Dean McShane). She is also represented in many private collections.

She has combined her love of strong color with an appreciation of the rich beauty of the sea shore, the marshes and the land surrounding her home into expressionistic landscapes and marine paintings.
